Located in beautiful Bend, Oregon, Epic offers an exciting work environment surrounded by mountains, rivers, and year-round outdoor recreation. If you're looking for a career with growth opportunities a vibrant work environment, we'd love to meet you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a key member of the IT team, the Full-Stack Software Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining the software that supports and optimizes our manufacturing processes. This position requires strong expertise in computer software principles and a deep understanding of IT technologies. We are building new web-based, containerized applications for the business and steadily moving our long-standing desktop applications onto the same modern platform. We are also putting AI to work, both in how we build software and in the tools we build. You'll play a central part in all of it.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain web applications that support and optimize manufacturing operations, from the database to the user interface, while ensuring high performance, quality, and responsiveness
  • Build, refine, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers to keep production, inventory, and cost data accurate and the system efficient
  • Migrate legacy desktop applications and services to the web platform: work out the existing business rules and data flows, then replace them without disrupting production
  • Build background services and integrations that connect our systems with each other, with shop-floor hardware, and with outside tools
  • Use AI-assisted development in your daily work, and help build AI tools for the business, such as local LLM and RAG systems built on company documents
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement bug fixes to maintain reliable software and services
  • Maintain the platform our applications run on: servers, containers, networking, security, and databases
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to gather requirements, analyze feedback, and implement software improvements that deliver effective solutions
  • Contribute to a small, dynamic team with broad responsibilities, influencing multiple aspects of the company's operations

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Required

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, including production systems you built and maintained
  • BS in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience, demonstrated through professional work or a strong portfolio of projects
  • Strong back-end development skills: designing clean, maintainable APIs and building the services behind them in Python (FastAPI or similar). Familiarity with Go is a plus
  • Front-end development with React and TypeScript
  • Extensive experience with relational SQL databases, ideally across more than one engine: data modeling, complex queries, stored procedures and triggers, transactions and concurrency, and indexing and query tuning
  • Experience with data processing and reporting: turning production and business data into clear, accurate reports
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Docker Compose, and comfort administering Linux and Windows servers
  • AI-assisted development as part of your daily workflow, used productively and responsibly
  • Knowledge of local LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and a strong interest in learning about and building such systems
  • Experience building background services and integrations that run reliably and unattended: processing work in the background and exchanging data between systems and with third-party services
  • Experience integrating software with hardware: barcode and QR scanners, label printers, network and serial devices, wireless sensors, and dashboard displays
  • Solid understanding of networking technologies, APIs, and web services: HTTP, reverse proxies, TLS and internal certificates, and authentication
  • Experience in database and server administration, ensuring reliable operations and security
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub
  • Ability to read, understand, and safely change long-lived code you didn't write
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including with non-technical users on the shop floor and in the office
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Desirable

  • Manufacturing ERP knowledge: MRP, BOMs, inventory costing, purchasing, and receiving inspection
  • Aerospace or other regulated manufacturing experience
  • Experience migrating desktop applications to the web
  • Mobile- and tablet-friendly web applications, including progressive web apps
  • Monitoring and observability tools
  • Document processing and automation
  • Integration with engineering data systems such as CAD/PDM
